Adapted from ideas by Andrew Burnett – 7th Grade Math Teacher, Newton, MA In our 7th grade math classroom this year, we strategized on how to: 1) Monitor growth from a Pre and Post-Assessment. 2) Provide students with immediate feedback (not grades) so they can see how they are progressing with the curriculum. 3) Have students assess their progress so they are apart of the process in terms of saying where they feel they are at in terms of the content standards. 4) Most importantly, have students not only focus/stress about grades!
By having assessments titled "Show Me What You Can Do" and having student's reflect on our feedback through "Self-Assessments," we feel students are better adapted to explain their strengths and weaknesses in terms of the 7th grade math standards.
Open for all educators PK-12, best for middle & elementary school.
