This year, Burlington High School opened a student-run writing center where students can drop in for writing help from trained student tutors. These student tutors designed and now operate the writing center, which has had a positive impact on the writing culture of the school. This session will explore our process and how educators can start a writing center in their community.

From a student writer who visited the writing center for help on an essay: "Not having a plan for my essay meant I kept changing the direction of my paper while I was writing it. It was only after meeting with a Writing Fellow that I figured out where I wanted to take my essay."

Open for PK-12, best for secondary (MS/HS).
